音源の録音のために滞在していたジュネーヴで心臓発作。椅子に倒れこんでいるのを、テッド・パーソンズが見つけて救急隊を呼んだけれども蘇生できなかったそうだ。なんてこった。
で、このへんの人たちはただでさえ順列組み合わせみたいなことになっているので私もさっぱり把握していないのだが、テッド・パーソンズとレイヴンで何を作っていたのだろう。気になるが、BBCはそういう細かいところまでフォローしていなくてぐちゃぐちゃなので参考になりゃしない。いやほんと、Killing Joke周辺は北アイルランドの諸組織よりずっとややこしい。
っていうか、BBC記事にProng bandmate Ted Parsonsって書いてあるんだけど、Prongって解散したんじゃなかったっけ？ と思ったら復活してるみたいなんだけど、MySpace見るとメンバーが違うし。

Paul Vincent Raven-- bassist for post-punk pioneers Killing Joke and, in more recent years, industrial elder statesmen Ministry-- was found dead Saturday, October 20 in a private home in a small French village on the border of Switzerland, near Geneva. According to initial reports, his death was the result of a heart attack.
The 46-year-old Raven was in the thick of a couple different musical projects at the time of his death. He was in Geneva to record with French band Treponem Pal, and he planned to release an album by Mob Research-- a collaboration with members of Warrior Soul and the Mission UK-- on Ministry leader Al Jourgensen's 13th Planet Records next year.

Samedi 20 octobre 2007 – Nous sommes tous attristés et affectés par le décès soudain et inattendu du bassiste de Ministry, Paul Raven. Raven et Ted Parsons (ex-Swans/ex-Prong/ex-Killing Joke/Jesu) collaboraient avec nous sur notre nouvel album au Studio des Forces Motrices à Genève. Les rapports médicaux indiquent que Raven a succombé à une crise cardiaque.
Nos pensées vont à sa famille et à ses amis dans le monde entier.
Son amour de la vie, ses créations artistiques et ses éclats de rires enjoués nous manqueront à tous profondément. Initial reports indicate Raven's passing was the result of a heart attack.

"The expression 'one of a kind' has lost its value but my beautiful brother, Paul Vincent Raven, redefined it. He was a one man army, as intelligent, funny, loving and singularly angry a man as I have ever known. His life was truly his own, from its beginning to this awful, tragic end. He was a born saint and an unbelievable asshole. This family's heart is bleeding and it will never stop. To know that we will never hear his voice and see his face again is a wound that nothing will heal. We would like to thank Paul's friends and comrades for their invaluable support at this impossible time."

Ironically he emailed me to tell me that it was 'a very nice thing to do to post a news message on MWIS about the death of a fan (Ashira)'. He also went onto say that he loved the idea of the Shepherds Bush shows and was gonna try to get to at least one or two of them. I shall miss him. I liked him a lot."

He was so excited about the future of the band and we hoped to have the record out by Spring 2008.. His enthusiam and determination to make things happen was infectious and I shall miss him greatly. His sense of humour was priceless and, both hailing from the same part of the midlands in England, we shared many a brummie and black country joke together.. the rock world has lost one of its most shining sons, may he have gone to a better place"

It deeply saddens me to tell you that legendary bass player and friend Paul Raven died yesterday morning of a heart failure in Geneva Switzerland at around 6am. Paul and myself were invited to play on the new Treponem Pal album in Geneva for a week. After a long day of recording the band went out for drinks to celebrate Paul's arrival and reminisce. We then went back to the house we were staying and I went to bed the other guys stayed up. I found Raven a sleep in a chair the next morning in the living room. I thought nothing of it as Raven would sleep like this on the tour bus in the front lounge all the time. Then I looked closer at him and he looked very grey. I checked his pulse and there was none. I yelled for the other guys in the band. We immediately did some CPR and called for an ambulance. Medics arrived quickly but after an hour of trying to get his heart beat back they could not save him. They said he died in his sleep probably around 6 a.m. it was then 9:30 a.m. Marco and myself have been contacting his family all day yesterday. I'm assuming a funeral service will be held in Wolverhampton U.K. where his family live and his birth place. We made a lot of great music together. Words cant describe how I feel right now I'm devastated. He will be missed by many. He was the king of the one liners. Please send Raven and his family love and light. これはつらい。「ずーっとレコーディングして過ごしたあと、到着記念で飲み会をやって、家に戻ってそのまま寝たのはテッド・パーソンズだけで、あとのみんなはみなそのまま起きていた。朝になって、リヴィングの椅子でレイヴンがこんなところで寝てるよと思ったのだが、ツアーバスの中でいつもそういう感じで寝てるから異状は感じなかった。が、よく見ると顔色がひどく悪い。脈を取ってみたが脈がない。そこで大声を出してバンドのメンバーを呼び、心肺蘇生を試み、救急車を呼んだ。救急隊はすぐに来てくれたが、１時間余り蘇生措置をしたけれども、だめだった。救急隊の話では、眠っている間に死亡した、朝の６時半ごろだったのではないかと。そのときの時刻は９時半ごろだった。昨日はずっとバンドメンバーのマルコと自分でご家族に連絡を取っていた。葬儀はご家族のいる故郷ウルヴァーハンプトンで営まれるだろう。……」

2day i received the HORRID information that Killing Joke/Prong/Ministry, etc bass player Paul Raven has passed away. i HOPE to God that this is merely a rumour but i've received the info from an unfortunately close contact. anyway, i'm beside myself and don't know what to say? i spoke to him last week and am deeply troubled.....

Paul Raven
A friend of mine passed away this morning. Paul Raven, Killing Joke/Prong. I did a few things for these bands, remixes, programming, etc. I'm deeply saddened.

Our beloved Paul Raven died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Geneva in the early hours of Saturday October 20th 2007. Paul went to bed and did not wake up.
All of Paul's family and extended family are in a state of deep sadness and shock at Paul's unexpected passing. Paul has been sadly taken from us early in his life and his passing will leave behind a void that only Paul's amazing and unique character could fill. Paul was full of life and anyone that knew him well enough loved him deeply and admired him greatly.
Paul brought something special with him wherever he went and we will all miss him greatly. Rest in peace.

昨日の午前中に訃報記事を見て、昨日と今日は半分ふぬけ状態でした。海外の記事など、ひととおり見て回ってきたけど、いまだに信じられないです……。
私も最初に見たのが掲示板だったんで、掲示板だと「イアン・マッケイ死亡説」とかもあるしなあと思って、半信半疑でBBCを見て、うへぇ、と。あとはエントリ本文にあるとおり、とにかく確認の作業……。
やー、Ministryの新作が予想外に（＜失礼）よいし、何よりまだ若いし、あまりにも残念です。ものすごく久しぶりに聞いたMurder Inc. が悲しい。
