9日昼、ふとTwitterの画面を見たときに目にしたもの。日本時間で14時台のことだ。

早速ここで言及されているOさんのツイートを見てみた。彼はAUC（アメリカン・ユニヴァーシティ・カイロかな）で石油関係のエンジニアリングを学ぶ学生だと自己紹介している。

私が見たときには既に、死者の身元が判明したとの連絡が入っていた。

少し見ると、Oさんが最初にこの件を書いたのは日本時間の12時半前。メディア（アラビア語の新聞かウェブサイト）に、*英語で*、「なぜelwadi elgedeedのKharjahで起きていることを伝えないのか」というメッセージを送っていた。

この20〜30分ほど後に、米ニューヨークを拠点とするエジプト系のジャーナリスト、Mona Eltahawyさん（現在、CNNなどテレビのメディア、NYTなど印刷メディアでひっぱりだこ）とのやり取り：

※今回のエジプトの革命について、「ネットなんか関係ない」という人がもしもいたら、それはその人が何も調べてないだけ。このやり取りからもどのようにネットが活用されてるかがはっきりとわかる。（特にTwitterっていうのは@でメッセージを送信した相手の他にも大勢がそれを見ているわけで、この点、彼の投稿は「英語と英語以外」の使い分けとしてもお手本のようなケースだが。）（比較するに、ベラルーシは英語情報がほとんどなかった。本当に基本的に国内だけでやっていたようだ。無茶苦茶な選挙結果公表後の数万人単位の民衆行動が当局に潰されて死傷者が出て民主派の有力者が投獄されるなどしたことで、英語情報はかなり増えたが……。）

つまり、Oさんは現地にいる友達からの情報を受け取って、それをtweetしている。（彼自身は現地にはいない。）

つまり、この街は警察によって2，3時間前に電気と水道が絶たれ、抗議デモ隊に実弾が発砲されている。デモ隊をがんがん殴打したあと警察は撤退をやむなくされたが、撤退時にガソリンスタンドに放火。これはデモ隊が砂を使って消火した。一方でデモ隊は与党（ムバラクの党で、国会で議席をほぼ100パーセント持っている）NDPの地方本部と地方行政府に放火、未確認ながら警察署も放火されたとの情報もある。

警察は若者たちをだれかれ構わず逮捕し、どこかに連行している（どこに連れて行かれているのかはわからない）。また、ワディ（渓谷）刑務所に収容されている服役囚（刑法犯）を外に出し、住民を怖がらせている。政治的な性質の囚人は収監されたまま。さらにこの時点で最新の情報としては、これら服役囚が博物館を襲おうとしており、デモ隊が火炎瓶などで応戦の構え、と。

これらのやり取りが、最初にOさんがアラビア語メディアに「なぜ取り上げないのか」とツイートしてから1時間半くらいの間で行なわれた。

アラビア語話者が英語で書くということは、アラビア語圏の外に伝えたい、ということだ。実際、英語になっているこれらの情報は、私が気づいたとき（上に示したやり取りの約1時間後）には既に、このエントリのトップにあるように一部日本語化されていたし、英語圏でもRTでかなり出回っていた。

この後もOさんのツイートは続く。「友人の携帯電話が通じなくなっているので状況のアップデートはできないが、自分に何ができるか考えてみる。ニュースを広めてください」とかなど。

そして、ちょうど私がログオンしたころだが、誰かに提案されたのだろう、ハッシュタグ #NewValley を使うようになっている。事件のあったEl-Wadi El Gedeedを英訳すると、New Valley（新谷）となるそうだ。（地名の表記にはAl-Wadi al-Jadidなど、いくつかのバリエーションがある。英語話者がアラビア語の固有名詞をキーワードにして情報探すときは、これがけっこう大変。）

この写真は、何人かの男性たちがカメラの前に立っていて、一人が銃弾を見せているところ。それ以上の説明はない。

このあとOさんは、抗議行動初期に当局に連行されて12日間拘束された後に解放され、この前日にようやくオンラインに復帰したばかりの人権・民主化活動家（日本では「Google社の幹部」と言った方が通りがいいので私もそう説明してるけど、それはジャック・ストローを「弁護士」と説明するようなもの）のワーエル・ゴーニムさんのツイートをRTしている。

これらの投稿を、日本語のハッシュタグ #egyjp を見ている方々がどんどん回してくださった。日本語（やハングル語、中国語、タイ語など）がそこにあるだけで「世界で語られてる感」が激増する、というラテン文字圏の基本的感覚があるので（「読めない文字は嫌い」という偏狭な人もいるが）、メディアを動かすのに多少は貢献したのではないかと思う。

このあと、まずアルジャジーラ（エイマン・モハルディーン）がOさんに連絡を取ったということが把握できた。

しかし――例によって今日も私はあるじゃじっていたのだが（「革命なう」の依存症の次は、「エイマン・モハルディーンの解説」依存症だ。今後私はあの、いかにも教材にありそうな「スタンダード・アメリカン」な発音を聞くたびにタハリール広場の匿名くんを思い出すだろう）、アルジャジーラではこの #NewValley #Kharga の件は、あまりやらなかった。AJEのニュースでは、エジプトは政権が憲法改正に動くということについてと、広場の民主派がどう動くかということについてがメインで、Khargaの件は「犠牲者が出ている」と解説し、現場（負傷者）映像を少し流しただけだった。なお、同局の今日の「目玉」は、「独占入手」らしきキルクーク（イラク）のカーボム爆発の瞬間の映像（すごい怖い映像。車に乗ってた人がたまたま撮影していたらしいのだが、間に何台かはさんだところを走ってくる後続車がいきなり爆発する）。

おそらく、明日以降たっぷりした取材の結果を見せてくれるのだろう。夕方（私が最初に気づいてから4時間半ほどあと）、Oさんは次のように書いてる。

一方で、ハッシュタグから「こっちで映像流してるよ」と教えられて行ってみた、イランのPress TVだが……もう100％予想通りなのだが、「シオニストどもの悪辣な行為、同胞たるエジプトの民衆に無差別発砲」の毒吐き散らかしで聞くに耐えない。

おまえら、2009年にテヘランやシラズなどなどで自国民があれだけ暴力を浴びせられてたときに、どういう態度取ってたよ。100％「あれはシオニストどもの悪辣な云々」じゃなかったじゃん。ジレンマに苦しんでたじゃん。

ジレンマに苦しんでた人たちはやめちゃったのかな。そして後にきたのがジョージ・ギャロウェイとか、もうほんと、やっとれん。
