デリーの射殺死体とReal IRAとMI5

25日、オマー爆弾事件で唯一投獄されていた人物が、再審で「証拠の不備により無罪」となったことが報じられるのとほぼ同時に、デリーの外れ、アイルランド共和国とのボーダーの近くで、男性の射殺体が発見されたことが報じられていた。

BBC Newsでは、最初は単に「デリー郊外で男性が射殺」という見出しだったはずだが、すぐにMan shot near Londonderry 'stripped and bound' という見出し（デリーで発見の射殺体「服を脱がされ（手を）縛られていた」）になり、さらに同じURLで「被害者の身元が判明した」という見出しに代わった。

当初の報道では「共和国側のギャングの抗争かもしれない」なんてことをあえて思おうとしていたのだが（ダブリンでつい最近ものすごい抗争があったばかりだ）、BBC Newsでのこの記事の書き方というかパターンというか、それとBBC Newsで書かれている内容（政治家のコメントとか、the victim was known to the policeのような記述など）が、いかにも「そういうこと」の雰囲気がしていたので「そういうこと」なのだろうと思っていたら、そのうちに同じBBCの記事の見出しが「Real IRAが犯行を認めた」になった。そして……

Real IRAの犯行声明が出たあとのベルファスト・テレグラフのキャプチャ＠26日昼間（日本時間）：

BBCの記事がもう落ち着いているので、少し詳しく見てみる。

Real IRAから「地域の（＝デリーの）ジャーナリスト」へのステートメントによると、RIRAが水曜日に射殺した男性はキアラン・ドハーティ (Kieran Doherty, or Ciaran Doherty) さん（31歳）。彼はリパブリカン（「武装闘争」をするナショナリスト）として投獄されていたことがある。

記事でそれだけの情報を拾って2，3秒のうちに、次のようなことが頭に浮かぶ――現在31歳ということは、1998年の和平合意（グッドフライデー合意）のときには20歳になっていない。その世代でかつてリパブリカン・プリズナーだったということは、おそらく、1998年和平合意の後に「武装闘争」をしている一派、つまりdissident republicansと呼ばれる勢力の一員になったのだろう。では、例えば「INLAのメンバーがRIRAに射殺された」とかいったことだろうか。

そう思って次のパラグラフに進むと、「こいつらほんとにクランベリーズのZombieの歌詞そのものだ」ということになる。

RIRAは、ドハーティさんはRIRAのメンバーだったと述べている。

この事件について、被害者の身元が判明してすぐの報道は「糾弾すべき非道な事件」のトーンだった。「3ヵ月後に結婚を控えていた男性が、婚約者と幼い娘がいるというのに、残虐な殺人集団に殺された」という感じ。下記はその一例（Ireland Onlineだが、BBC Newsも上書き更新される前はこういう感じの記事だった）。

この「糾弾すべき非道な事件」というトーンは、Provisional IRAのメンバーが関わったらしいロバート・マッカートニーさん殺害事件（2005年）の報道記事によく似ていた。（ロバート・マッカートニーさんはベルファストのパブで飲んでるときにPIRAのメンバーと喧嘩になって刺されて亡くなったのだが、本人はパラミリタリーではなかった。これはPIRAが武装解除する前に起きた事件だが、この件が米国のホワイトハウスでのセント・パトリックス・デイのお祝いにも明確に影響を及ぼすほど激しく政治化されたことでPIRAに対する武装解除圧力が高まったことは、「プロセス」の進展という点で無視できない。）

けれども、彼が昨年11月にデリーの地域新聞（デリー・ジャーナル）で「MI5から接触があった」と語っていたことがわかると、「結婚を控えていたのに非道な集団に殺された気の毒な男性」というトーンは弱まった。BBCの記事から：

In November 2009 Mr Doherty gave an interview to the Derry Journal newspaper in which he claimed he had been approached by the security service MI5 while trying to set up a cigarette manufacturing company.

According to the paper, he was repeatedly turned down for a licence by Revenue and Customs and had then been approached by an MI5 agent

"I think the whole thing is a set up in order to try and recruit informers," he told the newspaper.

In January this year, Mr Doherty again contacted the same newspaper after the police searched his home.

The search came after 500,000 euros worth of cannabis was found in a house at Carrigans in County Donegal.

Mr Doherty told the newspaper that he had no involvement with the drugs and that the house belonged to a Real IRA prisoner, Seamus McGreevy, whom he had met in Portlaoise prison.

It is understood that Mr Doherty was in prison for the armed robbery of a nightclub in County Donegal in 2001.

Mr McGreevy, who was from County Meath, took his own life earlier this year.

なお、私のメモを見ると、UTVの記事に当初、'In a statement, the terrorist group said that they "executed" Mr Doherty as they said he had become involved with a criminal organisation linked to the drugs trade. The statement added that "he knew the risks involved".' という記述があったはずなのだが、時間が経過したらその記事からはこの記述は消えてしまっている。（ひょっとしたら「テロ組織」のステートメントをそのまま引用するという形が問題なのかもしれないが……。）その代わりというわけではないが、ドハーティさんが倒れているのが発見されたときのことを語る証言がUTV記事には書かれている。

UTV understands Kieran Doherty was shot twice in the back of the head.

He was found by a member of the public at 10.10pm on Wednesday on the Braehead Road close to the border with Co Donegal and 400m off the main Letterkenny Road.

A priest was alerted and then the emergency services but he was dead when they arrived.

"I prayed over the man", Father Stephen McLaughlin told UTV.

"It was a chilling scene to see a human dumped along a country road in the darkness of night.

"It was cruelly ironic that it was at the rear entrance of a place of prayer, Termonbacca retreat centre."

つまり、被害者は後頭部を2発撃たれていたようだ。水曜日の午後10:10ごろに現場を通りかかった一般市民が被害者を発見し、すぐに神父が呼ばれ（エリア的にカトリックなので、とにかく最後の秘蹟を行なう必要があると判断したのだろう）、救急車も呼ばれたが、到着した時には既に被害者はこときれていた。……

で、UTVの記事から消えていた「ドラッグ」の件については、Irish Central（米国で編集されているアイルランド情報・ニュースサイト）にアップデートされた情報があった。

Real IRA (RIRA) member Ciaran Doherty was shot dead by members of the same organization.

The RIRA suspected Doherty of supplying information about a cannabis factory in County Donegal to the police. The police raided the drug factory last month.

The RIRA has claimed responsibility for murdering Doherty. The father-of-one's semi naked body was discovered on the outskirts of Donegal with his hands tied and gun shot wounds to his head and chest.

The RIRA issued a statement saying: "We executed him because he was involved with a criminal organization with links to the drugs trade and was profiteering. He knew the risks involved in what he was doing."

RIRA member Seamus McCreevy, who was found dead in his home in County Meath last week, owns the house that was used in the growing of marijuana.

However, the police have ruled out foul play in his death.

Currently there is no evidence to connect McCreevy to the marijuana grow house.

Doherty was never a member of a republican group until he joined the RIRA during the Provisional IRA ceasefire. Doherty had met McCreevy in jail while serving a custodial sentence in Portlaoise Prison.

Doherty was subsequently jailed again for the armed robbery of a Donegal nightclub in 2002.

つまり、先月警察の手入れがあったドニゴールのカナビス製造所について、キアラン・ドハーティさんが警察に情報を流したのではないかと疑ったReal IRAが、彼を殺したとの説だ。ドハーティさんは頭と胸を撃たれており（UTVなどでは「後頭部に2発」とある。このズレは、この点について警察発表がなされていないことを意味すると考えてよいだろう）、Real IRAは「彼は麻薬取引に関与している犯罪組織と関わって利益を得ていたので、我々が処刑した。自分のしていることのリスクを、本人が承知していた」との声明を出した。そして1月にカウンティ・ミースの自宅で死亡していたシェイマス・マクリーヴィが所有する家でマリワナが栽培されていたが、警察（アイルランド共和国）は彼の死については事件性はないと見ている……うむぅ。これを「はいそうですか」ってのは、ねぇ……。ちなみに自宅で死体で発見されたマクリーヴィは、Real IRAの武器調達に関してリトアニアで手配されていた人物だ。

なお、31歳のキアラン・ドハーティは、Provisional IRAの停戦中（97年以後）にRIRAに入るまではリパブリカンの集団（PIRA, INLAなど）に加わっていたことはなく、Portlaoiseに投獄されたときに「自殺」したマクリーヴィと知り合い、2002年にドニゴールのナイトクラブで強盗事件を起こして再度投獄されている、とのこと。（ディテールがほかの報道と食い違うのだが、マクリーヴィと知り合ったときの投獄は、2002年の強盗事件後のことかもしれない。）

この記事は出たのがわりと早かったのだけど、事態が俯瞰されていて参考になる。殺されたドハーティさんがMI5から接触を受けたと語っている件についてもざっと要約で紹介されている。ちょっと抜粋。

"I was taken into a side room by a man calling himself 'Justin', who identified himself as MI5," he told the newspaper.

"He was able to tell me all about the history of my business and the troubles I've had with securing a licence for premises." Mr Doherty said he was trying to open a cigarette manufacturing plant and that he and his partner had invested £500,000 in equipment.

He claimed that "Justin" was seeking information on a Cypriot business contact Mr Doherty had just met for the first time. "They told me he was the target of their investigation."

Mr Doherty said his business partner, also from Derry, had recently been approached at Schipol airport, Amsterdam. He was asked to help the security services target dissident republicans in Derry.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Harrison said Mr Doherty had been "known to police" but declined to give further details.

ドバイのホテルでハマス幹部を暗殺した謎の集団の話もすごいけど、こっちもすごいですね。キプロスとかアムスとか。

で、タイムズの記事に「この1週間でアーマーの警察署にmortar bomb攻撃があり、ニューリーでカーボムがあり、そして今日の殺人である」ということが書かれているのだが、ニューリーのカーボムについては24日の時点で「Real IRAの犯行か」という報道がアイルランド共和国のメディア（アイリッシュ・インディペンデント）であった。ただしこれについては、他のメディアでは同様の報道がないので、まだ確定されていないのだと思う。

On UTV Live the Sunday Tribune's Northern Editor, Suzanne Breen, stated that she had met Kieran Doherty in 2003 when he was "O/C Real IRA prisoners" in Portlaoise Prison and that it was her understanding that he had remained an "active republican" on his release.  Suzanne Breen also identified the "Republican prisoner" who owned the house in Donegal as Seamus McGreevy - who recently committed suicide while fighting extradition to Lithuania on attempted arms smuggling charges as the result of a sting operation involving MI5, the garda, and Lithuanian police.

Suzanne Breenは、ダブリンに本社のある日曜紙、Sunday Tribuneの北部担当エディターで、リアルIRAとパイプのあるベテランのジャーナリスト。昨年3月の英軍基地襲撃事件の犯行声明も彼女を通して出されたし、「デニス・ドナルドソンをやったのはわれわれだ」といううそなのかほんとなのかわからない例の犯行声明も彼女を通して出されたものだ。

Police are investigating the death of a man who is believed to be the first victim of a Republican terrorist murder in Northern Ireland for six years.

The body of Andrew Burns was found wrapped in a red blanket in a churchyard in the Irish Republic on Tuesday evening. Security sources told the Guardian yesterday that Burns, 27, had been a member of the Real IRA ....

Father Brian McGoldrick, the parish priest at St Columba's church, prayed over the dying man's body. "I am simply appalled by it," he said yesterday. "It is just a sad reflection on things that are happening in Ireland at the moment. It is just an appalling crime and there is nothing you can do but condemn it in the strongest terms."

The Real IRA last night denied it had been involved in the murder of Burns, who had been injured in a previous shooting blamed on dissident republicans.

この人については、近しい人が彼が殺されたことを嘆いているという記述を含んだ文章に対し、読者がつけたコメントに「だけどこの人RIRAなんでしょ。だから同情は一切覚えない」というものがあったことを、ものすごい鮮明に覚えている。RIRAのようなファナティックな連中は殺されても仕方がないんじゃないの、みたいな「感想文」はチラシの裏に書いておけばいいのに、と本気で思った。
