finetuneの "NI Related" に入ってる曲を再生順にちょっとだけ説明するプロジェクト (1)

finetune.comで作っている「NI Related」のプレイリストに入ってる曲を紹介してみよう＠第一弾（思いついたときにやるだけ）：

自分で再生ボタンを押して、再生された順番で、「なぜこれがNI Relatedなのか」を中心に、簡単に説明することにする。現状100曲以上入っているのだけど、ちょっとずつね。「NI」でまとめているだけで、音楽的には統一性はないです。

……だが、そんなこと書きつつのっけからスゴいのが出てきたらお茶ふくよね。

The Golden Palominos, "Belfast"

ジョン・ゾーンとアート・リンゼイとビル・ラズウェルとフレッド・フリスとアントン・フィアーと……なんだけど、Belfastという曲がある。（ゴールデン・パロミノスはいろいろな意味で敷居が高すぎて、探してみるまでBelfastという曲があるなんてことは知らなかった。）以下、この音源についてのウィキペディアの説明。

Dead Inside (1996) was another stylistic turnaround for the Palominos, and their last proper album. This time, the record had a deathly, industrial sound, with the line-up consisting only of Fier, multi-instrumentalist Knox Chandler (who before joining the Palominos, was also in a band with Lori Carson), Nicky Skopelitis, and poet Nicole Blackman. Blackman's dark and deliberate lyrics (tellingly, Blackman had also recently worked with the industrial German band KMFDM) made Dead Inside a challenging record; its sound and tone stand out decidedly as unlike any of the others. The album's opener is the brutal, spoken-word track, "Victim".

In 1997, The Palominos released another EP, named Dead Outside, composed of five remixes of tracks from Dead Inside. However, this EP was released as free MP3s on the Internet, made available for a limited time through Nicole Blackman's website and also through a fan-created band website (since decommissioned).

"Dead Outside" consisted of these five remixes, which were available for download for one month only, as per Fier's instructions. 'Victim: The Last Thing' by Sean Beavan (whose credits include 8MM/Nine Inch Nails/Marilyn Manson) with John Van Eaton (a frequent Blackman collaborator who has worked with NIN for 10 years) 'Ride: Pragmatic Spasmatic' by Raymond Watts (of KMFDM/Pig) "Belfast: Empty As Wire" by Scanner (another Blackman collaborator) "Ride" by Mark Walk (of Ruby) "Victim: Interference" by John Van Eaton

というわけで、NI関連リストに入れたのは曲名と歌詞から。リミックスは、レイモンド・ワッツじゃなくてScannerでよかったっていうか、レイモンド・ワッツだったらレア音源を求めて旅が始まるところだったかもしれない。（個人的に。）

いずれにせよ、歌詞がすごすぎて泣ける。

Omagh Community Youth Choir, "Across the Bridge of Hope"
上に挙げたアルバム、Across the Bridge of Hope の収録曲、というかタイトル曲で、オマーの子供たち・若者たちが歌っている。

このアルバムは、1998年8月15日のオマー爆弾事件で命を奪われた人たちの遺族（事件後、今に至るまで血のにじむような「真相究明」の努力を続けている）のための資金を集める目的で (In aid of Omagh Fund)、ベルファストとデリーのレコード会社の人が企画し、ビッグスターが協力してできた。楽曲を提供するスターもいれば、朗読を提供するスター（リーアム・ニーソン！）もいて、詩を提供するスター（シェイマス・ヒーニー！）もいる。このアルバムの制作を伝える98年11月の記事が、今も閲覧できる。

ベルファスト・パンク・シーンで一番有名なバンド（元はメタルのコピーバンドだったとのことで、同じベルファストのどパンクから「SLFは本物じゃねぇ」とか言われたりもしているが）のファーストの6曲目。ただでさえポップなSLFでもこの曲はドゥーワップも入ってたりして特にポップだから、ウッカリしていると聞き取れるところだけ聞き取って勝手に「青春ラヴソング」とか思い込んでしまいそうだが、まあ、歌詞を読め。いきなり "I met you in No Man's Land" だから。"Barbed wire love snags my jeans" とかね、もう。

これ↑はUS盤のリマスター盤で2005年に出てて、20曲入り。16曲目が「アーマライト・ライフル」なんだけど、これの出る10年前、1995年のUK盤（リイシュー）では15曲しか入ってない。オリジナルが12曲入りで、それにファーストシングルの4曲をボートラで入れた企画なんで、16曲ないと変なのだけど、「アーマライト・ライフル」がカットされとる。(^^;) ウィキペディアを見る限り、1995年リイシューのUS盤では「アーマライト・ライフル」が入って本体12曲＋ボートラ4曲の計16曲で出ていたというのだけど、いやー、さすが、グッドフライデー合意前ですな、はっはっは（GFAは1998年）。（最近、保守党の一部が英国／イングランドの「伝統的」な、マグナカルタ以来の「市民的自由」で大騒ぎしてるけど、笑わせんじゃないっての。）

Christy Moore, "Back Home In Derry"

クリスティ・ムーアはアイルランドの超有名シンガー。ジェリー・アダムズのiPodの中に入っていることでも知られる（？）。無心に聞いていると涙が出てくるほど美しい曲だが、書いたのはボビー・サンズで、オーストラリアに事実上の流刑になる囚人が、移送船の中と現地で「故郷のデリーに帰りたいなあ」と語る歌。

→ 歌詞がすさまじいです、この曲は。アーマーの女性刑務所での拷問・強姦の問題を扱っているので。で、あまりに直球でリパブリカン支持なので、今はあまり語られることがない曲だと思います。（80年、81年のブランケット・プロテスト、ダーティ・プロテスト、メイズのハンストのころの複雑な背景がある。）

- Everything But The Girl, "Sean" (1985年のLove Not Moneyに収録)
→ amazon.comに試聴あり。
→ 歌詞。

- McCarthy, "Take The Shortest Way With The Men Of Violence" (1990年のBanking, Violence and the Inner Life Todayに収録)
→ last.fmで試聴できると思います。歌詞は見つからない。

ですが残念なことに、いずれもFinetuneに入っていないのです。（Au PairsとMcCarthyはまったく入っていない。EBTGは、盤は何枚か入っているのだけどこの曲が収録されているアルバムがない。）なのでプレイリストに入れることができず。。。

Finetuneではレーベルとの契約ができしだいカタログに入るので、これらもそのうちに入るかもしれません。そしたらプレイリストに追加します。
